On February 26, Dongseo University’s 30th entrance ceremony was held at Sohyang Art Hall. Because of COVID-19
health precautions, in-person attendance was limited to a small number of participants, and over 2,000 people took part online though Zoom video-conferencing. The offline portion of the ceremony was held under restricted conditions, as the few in-person participants wore masks, kept socially distanced and waved rather than shake hands.

In spite of the unfamiliar, mostly non-face-to-face online setting, the entrance ceremony was upbeat and well enjoyed by all. To the delight of the audience, the event opened with DSU’s energetic announcer Im Hyun-jung introducing rousing online performances by seniors from the Im Kwon Taek College of Film and Media Arts.

A total of 2,029 freshmen received formal admission during the ceremony. The student council delivered a bouquet to freshman student representative Park Seo-yeong to congratulate her and her peers on entering the school. Taking the oath of admission, all new students pledged to “abide by the school's rules, strive to learn while attending school, and do our duty as students."

DSU President Jekuk Chang addressed the students, saying, “Make big decisions with the confidence that you will surely succeed. You own the greatest wealth there is, which is youth. You have nothing to be afraid of. From now on, you will develop alongside Dongseo University as it expands as an ever more prestigious school.”

President Chang told the newly admitted students to let go of the past. “It doesn't matter what kind of environment and difficulties you experienced Before Dongseo," he said. He added, “From now on, your future depends only on what kind of dream you have and what kind of effort you put in. That is how you will realize your goals for After Dongseo."
Finally, President Chang promised the fresh- men in attendance, "As you strive to develop yourselves throughout the next four years, Dongseo University will make every effort to constantly expand and upgrade to an ever more global and ever more prestigious university.”

Hello, freshmen.
Congratulations and welcome to Dongseo University, a rapidly expanding, future-oriented institution of higher learning where you can develop your abilities to your full potential.

In its brief but storied history, Dongseo University already has become a leader in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is a university with state-of-the-art high-tech facilities, whose administration, faculty and fellow students are all striving to provide you with an exciting and challenging educational environment.
Everyone, I would like to ask you to use Dongseo University’s propitious learning envi- ronment to help you develop your abilities to their fullest.

You should begin by making good friends. This is the first step to success. The next step is to consult your professors. Your professors are kind and they want to help you, so you must engage with them. Please, don’t hesitate to approach your professors with confidence. Go visit them in their office when you need help. Develop meaningful learning partnerships with your professors and they will become lifelong instructors.

Dear students of Dongseo University, always remember the three parts of the founding spirit of our university: truth, creation, and service.

First is the truth. If you follow the truth, you will proceed on the right path. You will not fall prey to the temptations of the world. You will gain wisdom, and you will gain the courage to keep trying your best even when the way appears blocked.

The second part is creation. Creation comes from realizing your dream. A person without a dream is directionless and adrift in the world. Discover your dream and develop your abilities so that you can make your dream a reality. Here at DSU we call it The Only One: the power of finding and developing your own goal. Do not dwell on the past, on how well you studied in high school, or on any adversity that has come before. Look instead to future. Find what you want to do and learn to do it well. That is creation.

The third part is service. The founding spirit of our university is to serve humanity and our neighbors in the spirit of Christ. There are many volunteer programs in our university, such as the International Tech Corps and the Nakdong River Environmental Corps. Participate in volun- teer programs during all four years of your time at our university. Volunteering at DSU will help you to realize early on in your life that there is always more and more to be gained through helping others. So learn the habit of volunteering. Habits are destiny.

Your life Before Dongseo, that is in the past. You are changing from day to day, and as you change your habits you will begin to think differently. Be thankful and proud to be a student of Dongseo University. To achieve the improved After Dongseo version of yourself, open your heart and from now on study joyfully and diligently every day.

Even if it's hard, and especially if it’s hard, don't stop. Don’t quit. Keep doing your best it for four years and you will find that life gets renewed every day. Then you will become a university student who has learned the meaning of success. You will be a true After Dongseo person.

I hope that as a student of Dongseo University you develop your dream so that you may be of great use to yourself, to your family, to your community, to your country and to the world. As you achieve this over the course of four years you will be strengthening your mind and your body on our beautiful university campus while receiving the good energy of Eomgwang Mountain.
