At the 2020 Busan Tourism Travelton Competition hosted by the Busan Tourism Organization, the DSU ‘SeeThrough Team’ comprising of tourism management seniors Kim Do-hee, Kim Soyeong, Son Ye-jin, Lee So-won, and Lee So-jeong won the Grand Prize and 1 million won in prize money.

First starting in 2019, this year the competition attracted 140 student entrants from 12 Busan universities. Through their final presentation given on 4 November, the DSU team proudly secured the Number 1 spot.

Their entry, New On-Site Untacked, was centered around a new business concept designed for the re-emergence of the tourism industry from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on a convergence model that ultilizes ICT to satisfy the demands of untact, the judges explained that they gave high marks to the students' systematic approach, and were particularly impressed by their detailed business plans and feasibility analysis for Songdo Ocean Park.

Preparing since May, the 22 participating students from DSU took great advantage of the practical curricula offered them.
Moreover, the organizers and judges were so impressed with their devotion that DSU itself was marked out for selection as an excellent tourism university, gaining two Crown Awards.

In the tourism management major, courses that cultivate students’ ability to design and operate new business models such as smart tourism, travel platform, and OTA already begun operation two years ago in order to respond early to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Consequently, the Division of Tourism has already well adapted to the post COVID-19 era, with this year’s Travelton competition providing a valuable opportunity for DSU students to show off their skills.
